REUNION 2016 - OUTSTANDING! The 2016 18th Fighter Wing Association Reunion held at the Doubletree Hotel Downtown San Antonio, Texas on October 13 through October 15, 2016 and was attended by association members, their families and friends.  The Reunion was highlighted with a performance by the Korean American Culture Center of San Antonio. They performed traditional Korean dances with ceremonial drum demonstrations.  We also had a special guest speaker.  Judge Pat Calhoun talked to us about his time in Korea and the 18th Fighter wing.    It was very informative and he was fun to listen to.  He was great.  We would also like to give a heart filled thanks to everyone who helped make the Reunion a success. Go on-line to www.18thfbw.com and view the photos taken during the reunion. REUNION 2017:  The 2017 reunion is set for the Fort Walton Beach Florida area in October.  We are hoping more people can attend by moving the reunion to the east coast.  We have had several great reunions in San Antonio Texas but it’s time for a change.  We are looking forward to the new location.  There will be new people to meet and new sights to see.  If you plan on attending let us know at your earliest convenience.  You don’t have to wait for the registration form.  Email, text, snail mail or post on Facebook your intentions.  This will give us advanced notice of how the reunion is shaping up. President Tom Chapman: “It was a great reunion and I am very appreciative of those members and Guests who attended.  Hopefully. we will have more attendees at our next reunion in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in October.  We will keep you informed as we make progress.  A very special thank you to Dr. Deukhee Gong and the Korean American Culture Center of San Antonio Dance Group performers.  I look forward to seeing you in Florida in October, 2017.” Finance Officer Tom Major provided the following 18th Fighter Wing Association financial report: Balance Prior to the Reunion: $4,507.00 Deposits including donations: $3,383.00 Subtotal: $7,890.00 Debit card (snacks, etc.):    $195.92 Hotel and banquets: $3,744.00 Accommodations for guest speaker:    $230.00 Accommodations for party room:    $309.00 Cost of the Reunion: $4,478.92 OVER Spent: $1,095.92 Present balance: $3,411.08 Four members who paid were not able to attend and donated their costs. Secretary Clarence Frownfelter requests that any change of mailing address, email address, telephone numbers or status of members be promptly reported to the Secretary by calling 317-374-1774 or email frowniec@att.net.   This will help us keep our Master Registry up-to-date. Membership Chairman Joe Tombrella:  If you would like a copy of the membership roster, email or call me and I will send a copy of the entire membership roster. My email address is joengerry@att.net and my phone number is 772 978 7854. Hostess of the Hospitality Room Judy Parker does it again.  An outstanding job making all attendees welcome.  A special thanks to you Judy!! Our hospitality room wouldn’t be such a great success without your time and dedication.  The hospitality room is such a great gathering place to swap stories and find out more about “our” people.  We hope to see you at the next reunion. Comments from Members and Friends:  We had a few people show up that didn’t know the association still existed.  We are going to try and get more newsletters out and have more email updates.  Maybe we can get the membership back up. Comments from the webmaster:  We have updated the site and are still getting more contribution’s.  I have several pictures to scan and post.  I will get them up as soon as possible. Also, we have started a Facebook page.   It is located at https://www.facebook.com/18thFWA.   Go to the page and like us.  If you follow us, then anytime someone post anything about the association you will be notified.   When we get closer to the reunion date I will post an EVENT on Facebook.  It will ask if you plan on attending, may attend or decline.  If you answer this in advance, we will have a better idea of how many will be attending. Contributions to newsletter:   Dear Gentlemen, I just wanted to let you know I had a good time and was really happy with all the information you shared with me about Korea War period at the 18th Fighter Wing Association Reunion. (Mr. Frownfelter it was a big disappointment not to get the opportunity to meet you, I hope that we will get to meet next year in Florida.) After getting to know many of you servicemen I knew that although none of you knew my Dad, if the men my father served with were as fun and nice as all of you he was in really good company for the final months of his life! As soon as I got home I contacted the Air Force and I now know where my Dad graduated from flight school, what trainings he completed, that he flew 117 missions in Korea (maybe even 118 because they were unable to confirm the number of his last mission) My Dad did a hell of a lot of flying in WWII but it was all in the US and appears to have been training he never was deployed overseas. So please Tom and Clarence pass on my genuine thanks and appreciation to all of the good people who attended the reunion, hope to see you guys next year! Have a wonderful Veterans Day and I hope you know that this lady is grateful to you. Best regards, Kagan M West
